What's included in the cruise fare?

By Cris Bergerhofer, founder of Portamora · October 30, 2026

Your cruise fare covers your cabin, the included restaurants and buffet, most entertainment, the pools and the kids' clubs. Drinks beyond the basics, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurants, shore excursions and gratuities usually cost extra.

Usually included

  • Your cabin, and the stateroom attendant who looks after it
  • Meals in the main dining room, the buffet and the casual included spots
  • Water, iced tea, lemonade and regular coffee
  • Most shows and live music, the pools, and the kids' clubs

Usually extra

  • Gratuities: a daily charge per person, typically about $16 to $22 per person per night. See our gratuities guide.
  • Drinks: soda, specialty coffee and alcohol, by the drink or with a package.
  • Wi-Fi: usually priced per device, per day.
  • Specialty restaurants, shore excursions and travel insurance.
  • Taxes and port fees: depending on the line and where you book, they may already be in the price you see or added at checkout.

Lines that include more

Some lines include more in every fare. Virgin Voyages, for example, includes all its restaurants, Wi-Fi and basic drinks like soda and coffee. Others sell bundles that add drinks, Wi-Fi and more for a set price.
